Sealing of pores in aluminum anodized film

January 09, 2024

The anodizing of aluminium construction profiles, decorative and protective aluminum alloys is basically to generate a porous anodized film. Taking the anodizing of 6063 aluminum alloy for construction as an example, the porosity is approximately 11%.

Although this porous characteristic endows the Aluminum extrusion profile anodized film with coloring and other functions, its corrosion resistance, weather resistance, and pollution resistance cannot meet the requirements of use. Therefore, from a practical application perspective, the micropores of aluminum anodized film must be sealed.

Unsealed anodic oxide films, due to the large number of micropores, increase the effective surface area of workpieces or samples exposed to the environment by tens to hundreds of times, resulting in a significant increase in corrosion rate. Therefore, except for some wear-resistant oxide films, sealing treatment is necessary for improving corrosion resistance of aluminum anodized films. This treatment can effectively extend the service life of aluminium profile.aluminium profile
